NCC orders reactivation of barred lines extends NIN-SIM link deadline
NCC press release

The Nigerian Communications Commission has ordered all telcos to reactivate customer lines that were deactivated over the weekend after short notice to link their NIN with their SIM

In a press release seen on X, the NCC asked members of the public yet to link their NIN to their lines to do so, as reactivated lines would stay activated only for a short time.

The Commission has reviewed this deadline a few times. April 15, 2024, was the initial deadline It was then reviewed to Jul 31. The recent barring of unlinked lines significantly affected businesses and livelihoods. Hoping to give more time for subscribers to verify their info, the Commission has added an extension again.

The goal of this exercise by the Federal Government is to enhance the SIM ownership database structure and make sure it is accurate, which would enhance national security.
