MTN offices shut down nationwide amidst SIM blocking outrage

MTN has recently called for all its offices and customer service centres to shut down nationwide immediately. This is due to the outrage of angry customers nationwide whose lines were disconnected over the weekend.

While the NCC ordered the reactivation of all deactivated lines yesterday, some customers could still not use their lines and went to the office to sort their issues out, when things escalated.

In a viral clip on social media yesterday, angry customers are seen pulling down the fence of the MTN office complex, before storming the compound in the FESTAC town area of Lagos while protesting the barring of their lines. It is unclear if the mob got into the office building.

In response to the circulated video on X.com, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin stated that the DPO of FESTAC and his team effectively restored order and peace at the scene.

“This should not be the way to go! Meanwhile, the DPO Festac and his men responded immediately they got this report. They succeeded in restoring normalcy and are still on ground to maintain peace.”

Reacting on Tuesday, MTN said it would be shutting down its offices nationwide.

They noted on X, “Yello customer, please be informed that our shops nationwide will be closed today, July 30. We are available 24/7 to support you via our digital channels.”
